Best Features of OPPO F1s

FTW! Blog, #FTWBlog, #zhequiaDOTcom, www.zhequia.com, #OPPOF1s , #OPPO, #SelfiePhone, #F1s, #FTWblog, #FTWevents, #FTWeats, #FTWTravels
I never pay too much attention with the latest trends when it comes to mobile devices. I have had my phone for almost 4 years now and it works perfectly fine amidst its age. Guilty as charge, my phone is basically an extension of my life. If I need something to write on - BAM there's my phone. Alarm - phone. Recorder for those random shower singing moments - phone. Camera for that IG-worthy flatlay - phone!

There are multiple devices available in the market and narrowing down to one is certainly a huge undertaking. I repeat - I do not need a new phone but seeing the OPPO F1s got me seriously thinking. OPPO F1s is a sight to behold. A beauty with 5.5 inch screen, 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 Screen and two thread thin metallic band. Beauty beyond wonders. Certainly, that's not all she has to offer.

What makes OPPO F1s an amazing device? Let me count the ways:

1. Camera of amazing capability. Boasting with a 13MP rear camera and built with 1/3.06 inch sensor captures amazing nighttime photos. The sensor maximizes light sensitivity creating photos with vivid depth and details. Perfect for those night scenes shots when you are out with friends. The front camera allows users to rotate the phone from side to side to take a wide-angle selfie. No one gets left behind with this amazing feature! *click*

The 14MP front beauty camera comes with a 1/3.1 inch sensor and an F/20 aperture. This allows more light in and increases sensitivity creating that amazing selfie even in low-light conditions! The Beauty 4.0 allows users to capture their very best look and angle. Immediately reduces blemishes and the result? Natural looking shots worth all the hearts in Facebook and Gram it with #SelfieGameStrong Enjoy a wide variety of filters and a watermarking feature allows you to imprint photos with time, date, temperature and more creating a more memorable snapshot.

I hate having to fumble around when inserting SIM cards. Especially now that they make it super tiny. I love the fact that OPPO F1s removes that struggle with their Dual Sim Individual SD Slot which is basically a Triple Slot Tray. You get 2 spaces for your SIM Card and a space for your memory card. So much easier to use for technologically challenged folks like myself. Did I forget to mention that storage can be expanded up to 128GB? It will fit all my music library, movies and TV Series with so much space to spare! No need to delete apps and precious moments with your friends and family last Christmas! Imagine the photos and videos you can keep.

3. Multitasking wonder. The phone has a 3GB RAM with an octa-core 64-bit processor for a smooth multitasking and allowing switching between apps more seamless. Worry less with the 32GB ROM you won't have to experience your phone lagging when opening multiple windows and apps at the same time. Gone are the days when my phone shuts down to recover from over work. Finally, a phone that can keep up with my busy lifestyle.

FTW! Blog, #FTWBlog, #zhequiaDOTcom, www.zhequia.com, #OPPOF1s , #OPPO, #SelfiePhone, #F1s, #FTWblog, #FTWevents, #FTWeats, #FTWTravels4. Fingerprint activation allows you to launch applications with a touch of a button.

Start up camera with your thumb? YES! Open favorite chat app with your index finger? ABSOLUTELY! Lightning fast and flexible and allows up to five customizable fingerprint commands. The future of smartphones!

5. Smooth performance. OS is based on Android 5.1, ColorOS 3.0 makes everything seamlessly responsive, efficient and smooth performance and offering better memory and power to users. What more can you want from a phone?

Yes, OPPO F1s is a beauty.
Yes, I said I don't need a phone right now.
Yes, I want it!

Giant Bounty Fresh chicken installations give motorists something to smile about

FTW! Blog, www.zhequia.com, #FTWblog, #zhequiaDOTcom, #FTWtravels, #FTWeats, #BountyFresh, #GiantChickn, #EDSA,Traversing the usual EDSA traffic can easily turn travel into an irritating driving experience. And as the sea of red lights becomes the highlight of the day, motorists can’t help but to look for something that could ease their frustration. EDSA fixtures that have people smiling as they drive by are giant, inflatable chicken installations courtesy of Bounty Fresh.

These towering, cute, and cuddly chicken giants have surprised and brought smiles to motorists and onlookers in SM North EDSA in Quezon City and in EDSA-Magallanes (south bound) where amused netizens have mostly captured images to share online.

Apart from serving as a respite from the usual glaring billboards along EDSA, the giant inflatable chicken installations also emphasizes the “Laking Farmfresh” thrust of Bounty Fresh. With the brand, customers are assured of superior-quality chickens that have been raised in clean, spacious, and well-ventilated hatcheries and farms.

Musician's Friend

FTW! Blog, #FTWBlog, #zhequia.com, www.zhequia.com, #musiciansFriend,

My dad gave me that red Sony stereo at his side. This was his first investment music-wise from his first job as a seafarer. This was in the 90s where you must head out to music stores and buy what you want. Try it out and finally get something you wanted or something you have long needed.

This time, 2016 things are done quite differently. We rely online to buy stuff: shop for clothes, buy medicine, groceries and even any music-related item. Heck, musicisns friend allows you to shop for the newest musical instrument. Offering a lot from the usual string instruments to amplifiers and effects. It's your one stop shop for all your music needs. Head out to their site and check out what you fancy. I'd love to get myself my own violin someday.

Invest with the Sun Life Prosperity Card

One of today’s most in-demand celebrities, Matteo Guidicelli, is featured in the latest television commercial of Sun Life Asset Management Company, Inc. (SLAMCI) And get this: there’s not just one, but two Matteos going up against each other.

The TVC shows two Matteos with strikingly opposite tactics: one tries to impress by bragging his material possessions, including a new phone and a credit card, while the other woos her by promising a brighter future together with the help of the Sun Life Prosperity Card.

The Sun Life Prosperity Card is an investment card worth P5,000 which may be invested in any of the peso-denominated mutual funds managed by SLAMCI under its Sun Life Prosperity Funds. The first of its kind in the market, it has revolutionized mutual funds investing in the country.

“We wanted SLAMCI’s new TVC to encourage the audience to begin their investing journey with the Sun Life Prosperity Card because it’s an easy and convenient way to start building one’s brighter future,” explained SLAMCI president Valerie Pama. “By investing in mutual funds, one can make his money work harder for him, as against simply leaving all of it in the bank.”

FTW! Blog, www.zhequia.com, #FTWBlog, #sunlife, #sunlifeprosperitycard, #invest, #SunlifeFinancial, #sunlifeAssetManagement,

To illustrate this point, Pama shared that a 91-day time deposit in a bank 10 years ago would have given 28% return; but for the same period, the Sun Life Prosperity Bond Fund grew by 66%, while the money invested in the Sun Life Prosperity Balanced Fund would have earned 155%. Meanwhile, an investment in the Sun Life Prosperity Philippine Equity Fund gained 221%.

“This is exactly why we want Filipinos, especially the youth, to start investing some of their money in mutual funds,” Pama said. “Instead of using up all of one’s money on trendy items that will soon be replaced by a new fad, why not invest it for the long term and watch it grow? The two Matteos in our TVC certainly highlighted that message in fun yet clear manner.”

For his part, Matteo said he had fun portraying two different personas. “It’s the first time I did such a project, and I definitely enjoyed playing both roles,” he said. “But what’s important is that we were able to bring home the message. It’s fun to have nice material things and be on YOLO mode, but what will happen to you if all your money runs out and you have nothing saved for the long-term?”

And if there’s one thing that Matteo knows, it’s that some things are definitely worth the wait. “Whether I’m doing sports or working on a showbiz project, I know that I need to be patient before I could see the results. Training for a competition takes time, and so does shooting a movie or recording an album. It’s the same thing when you invest your money – you have to grow it long-term before you can enjoy the benefits,” he explained. “You may have to wait a bit, but it’s always, always worth it!”

2600: Beguiling Baguio | Explore

Baguio is synonymous to so many things: Pine trees, Summer Capital of the Philippines, strawberry taho and yes the place where broken hearted people escape thanks to that Angelica-JM movie. I may or may not have liked that movie, and it wasn't the movie that lead me this far off North. It is safe to say that I had a mental crisis and I needed to fix it - fast! Woke up pretty early, took a bath, dressed up and packed an overnight bag and hopped on a bus.

There's something with Baguio that makes the long travel truly worth it. How every mile we drove away, the more things became clear to me. I found peace from looking out into the passing buildings. Did I felt a sense of freedom that I was not bound to anything - no responsibilities, ergo no problems? I threw adulting out the window when I boarded the bus. It was reckless sure, it was out of character and I told myself that I needed this. In between tears and laughter, I made it unscathed - barely.
FTW! Blog, www.zhequia.com, #FTWtravels, #FTWblog, #beguilingBaguio #FTWgoesto2600

Baguio is utterly enchanting. Mountains of verdant lands stretch as far as the eyes can see. The cold breeze crisp and clean, a relief from the overly polluted Manila air. I felt rather small in this huge place, towering pine trees with dew drops and happy smiling people willing to help someone who looked rather lost. With only 48 hours to spend, I had set a plan to visit as many places as my energy, my shoes and my money will take me. There were 3 things I was sure to do: explore, eat and ukay! That is in no chronological order.

Explore

First, Mines View Park with the help of Google Maps and amazingly hospitable locals, I reached Mine's View pretty early. When I arrived, there were little tourists comparing to when I left the place at around 9AM. Mines View Park is just a brief jeepney trip away from Session Road. You have arrived when you see a throng of pasalubong centers and a huge gate with the sign.
FTW! Blog, www.zhequia.com, #FTWtravels, #FTWblog, #beguilingBaguio #FTWgoesto2600, #minesviewpark
Entrance is free. At the observation deck, unfolding your eyes is the panoramic view of Benguet's gold and copper mines. Take time for the vastness to sink in. It's just amazing how the world is with all it's wonders. How every breath I took was healing me in the process.

Other than the deck, you will actually get the chance to take a photo with the same German Shepherd your friend posted in social media. For Php100 you get unlimited photos and props to boot. If allergic or scared of dogs, opt for a dog-free activity like: wearing native clothes and ride a pink horse for a fee.

On my way out, since they also sell potted plants upfront, I got myself a Juniper plant for Php50.

The Mansion
FTW! Blog, www.zhequia.com, #FTWtravels, #FTWblog, #beguilingBaguio #FTWgoesto2600, #themansion, The Mansion
Constructed at the instance of William Cameron Forbes following the design of William E. Parsons, as part of the Burnham Plan for Baguio, 1908. This building is inspired by the City Beautiful Movement, the venue of the special session of the second Philippine Legislature, 1910. The Mansion was destroyed during the war, 1945 and rehabilitated on 1947. It was the venue of the UN Economic Commission of Asia and the Far East (ECAFE), 1947; The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 1948 and the First Meeting of the Southeast Asian Union (SEAU) known as the Baguio Conference of 1950. Summer residence of American Governors-General 1908-1935 and later of Philippine Presidents from Manuel L Quezon to the present.
FTW! Blog, www.zhequia.com, #FTWtravels, #FTWblog, #beguilingBaguio #FTWgoesto2600
Entrance is unfortunately prohibited but you can check out the gate whilst eating strawberry taho. The Mansion's elaborate main gate is said to be a replica of that of London's Buckingham Palace. Outside the place, you can see peddlers selling random stuff: from strawberry taho which is a must to try, you can also find fruits and even leather belts.

Wright Park

Wright Park is fronting the main gate of the Mansion and features a shallow elongated rectangular body of water known as "Pool of Pines". Best to walk with friends and also a great area for jogging. If you walk far enough to the gazebo you can see a wide stairway made of stones that descend to an area where ponies are rented out.

Thinking to myself now, this is the perfect place to hatch those eggs from Pokemon Go. Yeah, I play that too.
FTW! Blog, www. zhequia.com, #FTWtravels, #FTWblog, #beguilingBaguio #FTWgoesto2600, #WrightPark, Wright Park

Camp John Hay

Since Camp John Hay was rather far from Wright Park, decided to take a cab. Hailing a taxi to Camp John Hay was the best decision I have made on this trip. Not only was it a steep trek up but it was inaccessible to any form of transportation other than cab or private vehicles. Camp John Hay is a 690-hectare property which was turned over to the Philippine government in July 1st, 1991. The space has a 5,330 yard, 18 hole, par 68 golf course which is the best in the country. Around the complex are beautiful gardens, picnic areas, parks, an amphitheater and hiking winding through the hills with pine trees all over.

Being there, made me feel one with nature. I kid you not, the air was crisp, clean and was it a bit chilly amidst the time. You can bring food along with you and eat at the tables or at the picnic area. Inside the huge space, there's a Negativity Cemetery which was rather interesting, a small museum and a gazebo which was featured on an ABS-CBN show.

NEGATIVISM is man's greatest self imposed inflection, his most limiting factor, his heaviest burden.
No more for here is buried the world's negativism for all time.
Those who rest here have died not in vain - but for you a stern reminder.
-- as you leave this hill remember that the rest of your life.
Be inbide positive.
Have a good day - Treat today like it's your last though it's the first of the rest.

Oh Baguio, you make me want to come back.

2600 Series

Four Words

July 23

I woke up today carrying a heavy heart. Have you ever had that feeling? That feeling that something's not right. No, not the PMS kind or the I-feel-rather-sad-today-but-I-don't-know-why. Today was that day.

Heading to work early morning with my iced coffee in hand, hoping this feeling with just go away as the day progress. Today, was not the best day.

Then my phone notified me, my niece messaged me saying that my dad is at the hospital. I called my mom, no answer. I tried my very best to keep it cool. I worry a lot contrary to my humor. Other than worry, I felt rather scared. After a quick meeting at around 10:30AM, my mom messaged me four words: Patay na si daddy. (English Translation: Daddy just passed away.)

I walked across the room to Kim a workmate and a friend. Hugged her and basically broke down. My class thought it was because of them, I broke down like a baby. I was not proud of that moment. I was lost yet again. I did not know where to start or what to do. I had a few friends who helped out; gave me things to start with. It's hard to go about death and grieving alone.

I wrote him a tribute, created a Life Event. This was a few hours after it all happened:

I grew up pretty fast as an only child. My dad was away almost a year to ensure that I can finish my studies and be the breadwinner. We share so many things together: our love for dogs, amazing penmanship and the passion for astronomy. I get excited when there's a celestial event. I usually call him up saying that there's a Venus Transit or even planetary alignments. We gaze at the stars together and even look at the moon using his telescope. We biked a lot and he taught me how to fish. I learned a lot from him.
How to take care of my mom while he is away for work. Know what wire to connect to get maximum surround sound. He loves music, he has multitudes of cassettes, LPs, minidiscs, subwoofers and amplifiers to boot. I remember the first gift he gave me: a Sony red radio with a miniature organ. I loved that to bits.
He was not the kind to share his feelings or worries, he wanted to just be happy. Fishing makes him happy and small projects like making a big table from old wood.
Boy, did he love to travel. Being a pipe fitter, he travels a lot and he would share his stories with me when he calls or when he sends letters.
Other than those traits: he was stubborn like myself, funny how alike we were.
When I look up at the night's sky, the stars will shine brighter cause he is there.
I love you.
Today, he is one with the stars.

My dad and I.

In a sense, this is how the natural order of things go but no one even myself was ready for this.

When I was 20 years old, I gave myself five years to live. I knew for a fact that I will die young. I just did not see myself live long. I was not sick at the time, nor do I have an ailment - not that I knew of but I was too sure that I will never live this long.

Four years from my morbid realization, here I am crying, reliving that day when we put him to rest. Looking at him, staying there. Solid. Not moving. He even looks different from what I remember. He is gone. That's not my dad.

Looking back, I have so many things I regret.

Thinking how I neglected to tell him so many stories. How I ended up in Baguio because I was so depressed and never even called him up. Thinking of how many times I omitted truths to avoid having an argument. I did not even call him on his birthday, all I ever did was send him a text message. How busy was I that day that I felt it was bothersome to call?

He was my Switzerland as my mom and I have a love-hate relationship. How he made me feel so sure that he will be there for me - ALWAYS.

There are Five Stages of Grief:

Denial.
Anger.
Bargaining.
Depression.
Acceptance.

There is no pre-grief period. There is no pain than here: today, tomorrow and the few days to come. It will take me months, years and a whole lifetime to recover. It does not get better each day. It is all a lie. It is never easy.

Datu Puti Adobo Movement 2016

How much do you love your Adobo?
In celebration of the cultural gastronomic heritage that is the Adobo, NutriAsias Datu Puti put Pinoys to task in finding and feting the best adobo recipes at the recent Datu Puti Adobo Challenge held last Saturday, June 11, at the Mercato Centrale food market in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Co-presented with Mercato Central and Our Awesome Planet, The Datu Puti Adobo Challenge was part of the thrust to take the Datu Puti Adobo Movement a step further this 2016. Launched in 2015, the Datu Puti Adobo Movement was created to push for Adobo to be our pambansang ulam. It is a movement that hits close to home because Adobo is a dish that is as personal, as it is national. Each household has its own signature Adobo, and the shared flavor defines families, identifies us as Filipinos, and boosts us as a nation.  This event is also supported by partners Philippine Culinary Heritage Movement (PCHM) and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
The push for Adobo has reached much acclaim and has even been echoed by efforts in Congress. In fact, Bohol First District Representative Rene Relampagos filed House Bill 3926 in 2014, which sought to formally declare it as the national dish. The Datu Puti Adobo Movement has drawn support for the bill through a petition since the launching of the advocacy in June 2015.

The Adobo Challenge
To get people more involved in the Datu Puti Adobo Movement this 2016, the advocacy group mounted the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge and gathered Mercato Centrale’s veteran home-based cooks to create their own special Adobo dish. Participating food vendors of Mercato Centrale prepared adobo dishes using any type of meat and vegetable, and were marinated in or cooked with at least two of the three main Datu Puti products: vinegar, soy sauce, and patis (fish sauce). The top 14 entries were selected based on various criteria, including: creativity of concept, which looks at the story behind the dish as well as originality, branding and cooking technique; innovation, noting the use of unique special ingredients and Datu Puti products; and Philippine culinary heritage, including how it adopts and represents regional cooking styles.
Mercato Centrale was truly the right venue to celebrate this culinary heritage and mount the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge. The Mercato Centrale food fair is the go-to destination of urban foodies. Finding its home on 7th avenue and 25th street (across The Forum and in front of the “Between the Lines” art mural) in the heart of the BGC business district, this fab food fair happening every Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. has earned the disctinction of being a hub of culinary experiences. It is a venue for both comfort food cravings and fresh gastronomic finds all prepped by budding food entrepreneurs. During the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge, some select Mercato vendors added Adobo to their usual fare, and the foodies were all in for awesome renditions of the national comfort fave.

Ebe Dancel rocking with the crowd.
The Winning Adobo, Atbp.
Hosted by a familiar foodie himself, Tonipet Gaba, the feast was made even more festive with musical performances by homegrown talents UpDharma Down and Ebe Dancel. It was truly a treat to see both culinary and entertainment talents back up the Adobo initiative. As guests were treated to aromatic flavors and local OPM, Pinoy pride was truly in the air.
Among the participants, the Top 3 among the entries wowed the crowd with their inspired versions of the dish. Based on criteria that took into account taste, presentation, story, and heart, three Mercato vendors were named as the winners of the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge. And based on on-the-spot voting by the Mercato foodies, one was hailed as the People’s Choice.
The big winners of the night were:

First Place: The Oinkery’s Pugon Smoked Pork Adobo. Pork shoulder pugon-smoked for 8 hours, glazed with a rich Cebu-style adobo sauce and garnished with fresh manggang hilaw.
First place: The Oinkery
Inspired by Cebu’s method of cooking lechon, The Oinkery roasts their pork meat inside a traditional pugon giving it that distinct smoky taste.  Matthew combines the finished product with his sister’s Cebu-style adobo sauce and garnishes it with fresh green mangoes on the side. Having been slow-cooked for a total of eight hours, the meat is guaranteed to be soft and juicy with every bite.

DISH NAME: Pork Adobong Laing Pinangat
DESCRIPTION: Two Filipino favorites, Adobo and Laing, in one unique and flavorful dish.
Pork Adobong Laing Pinangat – that’s two of the famous Filipino favorites, adobo and laing, combined in one extraordinary dish. Dayrit’s 40 years of experience in creating sumptuous heritage home-cooked meals is very evident with their entry for The Adobo Challenge 2016.   According to Chef Miguel Dayrit, their version of the classic adobo recipe is different from the rest because it combines the strong flavors of two Pinoy viands to create an outstanding dish. This Bicolandia inspired concoction is a fusion of the creamy, hot and spicy and the sour and salty trademarks of laing and adobo respectively.

People's Choice Award: Lariza’s Seafood Adobo is a mixture of mussels, prawns and crabs stirred in a mixture of vinegar and soy sauce, garlic, onion, pepper and finished off with cheese on top to add a creamy, tangy taste. It also won the People’s Choice award in the Datu Puti Adobo Challenge.
People’s Choice Award: Lariza's
DISH NAME: Seafood Adobo
DESCRIPTION: A mix of crab, shrimp and mussels cooked adobo style and topped with cheese.
Lariza’s, another well-known food vendor in Mercato Centrale shares their expertise in creating a unique dish for the Adobo Challenge 2016.  Their very own “Seafood Adobo” is a mixture of mussels, prawns and crabs stirred in a mixture of vinegar and soy sauce, garlic, onion, pepper and finished off with cheese on top to add a creamy, tangy taste. Tess Gonzales, the proud owner of Lariza’s knew that her opponents would stick to the usual pork or chicken adobo, so she decided to come up with something edgy. With her “Seafood Adobo”, she hopes to motivate Filipinos to be more daring and “adobofy” fresh catch from the sea as an alternative to the usual adobo recipes.

All Adobo winners were awarded start-up funds in cash, so they could include their winning dishes in the regular Mercato menu. The People’s Choice awardee also received P3,000 worth of Datu Puti goods. With these latest initiatives and the warm response of urban foodies, the Datu Puti Adobo Movement has definitely made strides in rallying more people behind the nation’s ulam of choice.
