Choux

There's this little pastry store in Gaisano Countrymall that sells choux pastry. Choux pastry is a light dough used to make beignets, profitroles, croquembouche, eclairs and creme puffs. Containing only water, butter, flour and eggs.

The filling is usually called a pastry cream which can be flavored. Generally, it is light and has a subtle sweetness to it. A box contains 5 individually packed puffs. They even added one to the box. We took home 6 in total. :D

Best eaten chilled. The box is really cute as well. Easy to open and easy to transport. A perfect gift item for friends.

Look

It looks like an overblown piece of bread with a dusting of icing sugar on top. Don't worry about a small hole on the side, this is how they inject the cream. They use a special baking tool to fill these with creamy goodness. You can even look at the staff doing their thing.

And a cross section looks just like this. What I love about the pastry is that one is never enough. It's sweetness is not too overpowering. I like that it's subtle and you fell less guilty if you get an extra one cause one ain't enough. A box of 5 is only Php170.

I absolutely loved it. I liked the fact that it is big. The bigger, the more cream you can fill the hollow spaces inside. Yaaay! The crust at times come off as a hard exterior but I did not mind. It only gives a better support in keeping the cream. :D

I'd try the other offerings next time. They had fruit tarts, swan choux and cheesecake.
