After almost 12 hours of fasting for a blood donation, I can finally taste the sweet fruit of victory. We headed out to Gaisano Grandmall of Mactan to eat after the blood letting. I am considered as a local at the said mall with all the grocery shopping and frequent food trips. I heard good reviews of their Amigo Ribs from common friends and it was about time that I give it a try.
If you are a good stalker, you might be reminded that Pino! is the first food establishment I reviewed! Read the post here: Pino! Inasal and Filipino Cuisine. This time, I will give a better review. I must have been so engulfed with the food then. :P
The place can hold as much as 70 guests with it's table that can accommodate up to 8 people! Well lit and properly ventilated, the place is cozy and reminds you of our home in the province. They have wonderful adornments like this lamp that is made out of small seashells.
Like any other Filipino restaurant where everything can be purchased with an unlimited option we opted to get the Unlimited Iced Tea!
I wasn't really in the mood for ribs and I already have a high criteria for quality ribs! I need to visit Surfin' Ribs soon. My companion selected the Amigo Ribs while I had the no fuss Chicken Leg and Thigh Meal.
The budget meals menu. |
The flavor of the dish reminded me of our own Inasal restaurant in Butuan: Weegols. The meat packed flavor, you can taste that it was marinated well and boy was it juicy. I liked the fact that it brought me back home. The meal was more than enough for a person who just donated blood. :P
Chicken Leg & Thigh sold at Php98. |
The sauce complimented the chicken well and of course the atsara or pickled green papaya. I love atsara! It was a treat! It looked like it was just a small serving, but let it not deceive you! It was all lean meat and hardly any bones. It's really a steal at only Php89! :P

It finally goes down to how the ribs tasted. It was fall of the bone, succulent and was wonderfully served with their special sauce. What I noticed was that it tasted like it was boiled prior to grilling. There are several ways on how to prepare ribs: the boiling-baked process, baked-grilled type. I preferred the latter. I wanted to taste a bit of char, that bitterness you get from grilling. I didn't get to taste it as much as I would have wanted to. The taste was fairly okay, it just lacked oomph. It lacked something that would make it stand out.
The Aftermath.
I was satisfied with my choice and I had more than enough money to grab myself some dessert. The place is a perfect area to eat with the family specially for special occasions. You should try the Crispy Pata which by the way is humongous! I saw a family ordered one. Also, the staff were really attentive! They smiled at us and even gave my companion a free refill on her iced tea! How cool is that? :P
