Shabu Way Hot-Pot Cuisine

After my fulfilling meal at Kameyaki Okonomiyaki, we headed out to Ayala to scour for latest fashion finds and to walk off the meal we have previously. Using the Ensogo purchase, we headed out to eat at Shabu-Way at The Terraces in Ayala. We have been trolling their place for a few days now and just like how the stars aligned, there was a deal at Ensogo. I bought a good deal at Php150 only for a hot pot worth Php300. I actually bought 2 for the price of Php300! Heavy deal! :)

After spending on a satchel and some grocery items, we called it a night. We decided to finish the day with a Hop-Pot Cuisine. Orginally, shabu shabu is derived from the sound the meat makes when it's cooked in a pot. The term also directly translates to swish-swish Introduced in Japan in the 20th century during the opening of a restaurant Suehiro. Later he patented the term and it is now widely used in Asia and all other parts of the world.

Guests enjoying their meal.
The place can hold up to as much as 50 guests. Each table has an electric hot pot set. We were ushered at the back area where it was bit less crowded.

The place is ambient, well ventilated and smells really good. The floor was spotless clean and I must say, the staff was really friendly and hospitable. I told myself to fake it. Fake that we know what we were doing! :P

Once seated, the waitstaff assigned handed us the menu and started to set up the electric pot. She returned and poured some broth on it. I have little knowledge about this cuisine and I only relied on my companion's mastery in the said cuisine.I failed to ask what the broth was made of. Based on what I have read, it could be traditional seaweed broth. While we wait, she served us with plates and plates of meat, vegetables and an array of sauces.

The voucher allows you to choose from any of the items in their menu. You pay for the amount in excess. I selected the Mixed Meat Platter.  Each platter includes the Shabu-Way Veggie Platter which contains a medley of fresh garden vegetables with Udon and Vermicelli Noodles, plus an assortment of Soup Balls.
Soy sauce, egg, a special spicy paste then minced garlic, chopped chili and shallots.

What you do in Shabu-Shabu is to wait for the broth to boil. Then dunk all the ingredients that takes a long while to cook like the corn and some of the soup balls. There were also noodles like the Vermicilli which also takes a bit longer to cook than the Udon. We decided to have the Mixed Meat which included thinly sliced beef, chicken and pork. The perfect platter for the meat lovers. This also allows you to find which meat you like best. I preferred the beef due to its nuttiness and crunch. There is never a how-to guide on how to cook them, all you need to do is check if you think it's ready and just take it from the bowl and eat it! Easy peasy.

Just remember that the meat is already thin so cooking them won't take too long. Then you can move on to the veggies, just place dip them in the boiling broth and wait for a few minutes. Using the sauce you have, drizzle the meat or that piece of Chinese cabbage and then eat. I wanted to have a full on healthy dinner, I opted for the green tea. :)

Green tea from Twinings.

The experience is quite new however the freshness is utterly addicting! The crunch you get when you sink your teeth on those green leafy veg is nothing I have ever imagined! Don't get me wrong, I like vegetables and this is something that I would want to do frequently. The taste is crisp, fresh and satisfying even! I could not get enough! The soup balls were nice too, I loved the Lobster Ball. I think it would have been nicer if I ordered some seafood to it. The star of the whole experience was the broth, when all the meat is gone and the vegetable plate is left barren you can enjoy the broth and have this straight up or with rice. What the Japanese do, is they drink the broth last when all the flavors from the meat and the veggies have already mixed.

Look at that lovely sight!
To prevent the green leafy from getting all mushy, keep them on the broth for a few seconds. I counted 20 seconds and had a go at it. It was really great! So I saved the best for last, the last dark green veggie and the corn. I am also a corn slut that's why. It tasted sweet and wonderfully delectable. I think we did pretty well on our first visit! It took me awhile to finish this food review cause I really get distracted with the photos. :)
