Kusina Uno

I have always been a sucker for pochero. Pochero for my foreign readers is a classic Filipino stew which has two variations: Pork and Beef. Either way, this heart clogging dish has been a favorite amongst Filipino family and yes it does bring a lot of fond memories.

Since I watched Anthony Bourdain's episode of No Reservations Philippines, I was dying to know where he went for that big bowl of stew! I did a bit of research and it led me to Kusina Uno. There was no claim that Tony came here even the waitstaff didn't know who he was!

This 24 hour food haven is open to family gatherings and other functions. It can also be your one stop place to sober up after a few drinks with friends. The place is spacious enough to accommodate around 30 guests at one time. They have tables for two, four and even eight. They have kind waitstaff who not only provides you with the cutlery you need but with a smile as well.

They take up all the second floor of the building and has enough ventilation to keep the humidity at bay. In case the sun is too much or rain starts to fall they have this tarpaulins ready to cover the window. Yes, you can smoke too. The place is 100% al fresco.

We decided to go for the Beef Pochero as this has already been premeditated. I was a bit worried that the serving might not be enough. The waitstaff assured us that what we will be getting is more than what we have imagined. I took his word for it. I failed to mention that they have a 6% Service Charge,  you might want to bulk up your pockets before coming over. We ordered the Beef Pochero, Grilled Pork and plain rice. Rice is at Php15 per serving.

The wait was brief and my jaw dropped as I saw the big bowl of cholesterol was served! O_O HOLY MOLLY!

I'd rather you view the photos and see for yourself.

Beef Pochero at Php385. :D YUM!
The beef was oh so tender and  falls out of the bone. The marrow so sweet and heart-clogging the best combo to soothe up your sad, drunk soul. Greens freshly cut and crunchy, bamboo shoots ever so tasty and yes the soup warm and sweet. The makings of an impending heart attack. Moderation is the key and besides you need a little pampering right?! ;P

The pork was really tender and had a few amount of pork rind. The atchara was good too. Best with toyomansi (Soy Sauce with Lime) sauce.

  2. @Mustachio - Thanks for dropping by! There was no claim in the restaurant that he was there. I think we had the wrong place. :P

  3. Do not trust the waiters. I just dined there and the waiter automatically pocketed 70% of my change!!! If he wanted a TIP, he should return the change completely and leave it up to the customer to decide to leave a TIP, if any.
